General questions for 03 chopper

With the 107 the oil fill limit is the weld line at the bottom of the filler tube where it meets the reservoir. DO NOT OVER FILL. You will blow the excess out through your breather all over the right side of your bike. You are best to fill a tad below, run the bike, circulate the oil, then carefully top it off to this limit. JR has an '03 Chopper so his 1" must be that same level. My reservoir is a traditional HD horseshoe so that weld line is very clear. It may not be exactly so on your reservoir. My point is, don't overfill the reservoir.

Same... the weld. It is about an inch below the bottom of the neck.

thanks guys, Brew, very helpful... this is exactly what i was looking for.... i think im gonna try to make up some sort of dipstic to make checking it easier.

You can pickup an oil tank cap with a built-in stick and temp gauge at any Harley shop. Barring that your oil level should be approx. 1.5 inches below the bottom of the fill tube. Be careful not to overfill or you'll get blow-back thru the carb. The 2003 chopper holds 3 qts. of 20w-50.

awesome info guys, thank you!!

Hey JDouce, you have a manual for that 03?
no, i dont, have a manual. The guy that sold me the bike gave me a manual for an 05 which is somewhat helpful, but still not dead on. You happen to have a spare one handy lol???

Looking forward to retirement
Remember 03,04 can substitute a lot of HD parts for Bigdog parts! And yes it can be helpful!

I only have an oil cap no dip stick, this is pretty much my main concern. I have no idea if I have enough oil in this thing. Ive been a mechanic for about 13 years now so the mechanics of it dont concern me, its more or less getting the right parts and being able to check the oil. Any one else with an 03 know how to check the oil??
Did you ever find out how to determine oil level in the 2003? You're correct, no dipstick and no neck to check appropriate level. Thanks

Do not remove the crank case drain plug. Leave that alone. Remove the oil tank drain plug only. As stated above you need the oil filter for EVO motor. If you get the filter for the Harley Twin Cam engine it will not work correctly for the EVO motor. Completely different design.
