Bandit Clutch & Carrier May be next?

Well, I went for a ride tonight for the first time since last weekend when hell broke loose on my bike. Last week I was going down the highway and the backbone started vibrating real bad, so I pulled over and the coil mount/motor mount bolt was loose. Babied it home and got that all snugged as a bug but it still has a vibration in it after going over everything real well.

Tonight when at a stop with the clutch in and in gear it had a odd vibration in it. When I got home I tried something in the garage before shutting the bike down. I left it in first, front brake on tight and gave it some RPM and started slipping the clutch to put a hard load on it. after doing it for about 10 seconds I stopped. With the bike in gear and the clutch in, it was all I could do to keep the bike from wanting to go through the wall. It took all I had to get it into neutral. I think that either the carrier may have cracked and started vibrating and that i turn loosened the motor mount bolt or the stress from the vibration of the motor mount coming loose, cracked the carrier?

I have a feeling the carrier for the clutch is broke/cracked, but I haven't pulled it apart yet. That is my next project.

Does this sound about right to someone who has been through this issue? :bang:
Thanks,
Jake

Makes me wonder how many more miles I'll get our of mine. I have one of the earliest 05's and haven't had any trouble with the clutch but I did have the transmission rear drive sprocket nut come loose that caused a lot of wear and vibration.

Jake, while you have it down get the longer bolts for the coil cover and it won't come loose again. :D

I agree you broke your clutch basket. Same thing happened on my early 05. Would slip bad under load and vibrate like a biatch. Wanted to move in gear.

I would bet that 3 out of the 4 hot rod their bikes...
What is the sense of owning a Hot Rod if ya ain't gonna drive it like one.:D

No, Really, My cousin came down and one day I did about 400 miles with the wife on the back, NO Hot Rodding there! The next day did some more riding, to the beach, lunch and then the strip club:2thumbs: . Wife was with me then too:rolleyes: , so no Hot Rodding. The next day, left for another 400 mile trip, with the wife on the back and a little ways from home picked up a vibration bad. Hasn't been right since.

OK, Called Bandit and got the parts figured out I believe.

How many of you that installed the clutch kit just did the upgrade kit ($200)with the two extra plates or did you buy the complete clutch kit ($300) with all the plates?

Did you have them install the new bearing in the Carrier if you bought the carrier too. I have to get the Carrier of course and wondered if I should just do the new bearing or not for the $30.

I did the whole Bandit package in my 05 Ridgeback and love it. Great performance upgrade for a reasonable price in my opinion and I no longer worry about the carrier breaking.

Well, started pulling it apart tonight, didn't pull the clutch yet, I will saturday.

Things not looking real good so far. I am positive that the Carrier is broke because there is alot of metal shavings in the primary.

Damn, there goes that sense of security I need to have to make the long run. Wonder if there's a way to identify when the problem was corrected by serial number. I bought my 05 in the spring of 06. Crossing my fingers I have one of the later ones.

i bought the whole bandit kit for my 05 also. My oil looked worse than yours when I first pulled the cover. It is a easy install.

Seat, I was told it was earlier 05 models (of which mine was one) that had the problem. There was a flaw in the baskets causing them to get a crack in them, leading to a variety of problems. Your build date should be helpful in determing whether your bike would ever have problems. I had my issues before the 3000 mile mark...now have almost 8000 and no problems at all with new clutch from Big Dog. If you have some miles on yours and have had no problems you may be in the clear.

sorry to hear about that Jake - any chance of a "How To" on that when you do the install?

I have got most of mine apart and ordered the parts yesterday. I will post more pics later. My Carrier was in completely broke all the way around into 2 pieces.

Some more pics of the lovely Baker DSSC Carrier!!
This is how it came out of the bike!!
It wasn't making any uncommon noise, the only thing it started doing was wanting to creep at a stop with the clutch in and in gear.
Vet bills... Hate em!!!
