EHC replacement

Energy One

No I called them yesterday and talked about it they said it is discontinued and not much they could do. With all the problems over the last couple of years. I would be a fool not to just replace it. Then everything is new. The headlight not working had nothing to do with bike not having spark. Also headlight might have been self inflicted.

Hi Todd,
Hm, this should not happen. Pls. send the EHC back to me for checking out. Do you have about 8 - 10 days time until I get the defect device or do you want me to send a new one asap? I would like to program the 3 flashes for the brake light in the new devices but need a few days if a small delay would be ok for you.
All the best!

Axel is doing a hell of a good job. He was not kidding about shipping cost. He keeps improving his product. You can tell he takes this seriously. :old2::here::old2:
Thanks Axel

Hi Rottweiler,

Thanks for the flowers :) . You also help me to improve the product and give me the chance to make something better, special in this early stage.

However a pcb board is something like a living object with unexpected reactions and will be never finish...

All the best!

Hi Todd,

I received the EHC and bring a new device from the 2. serie on the way today.

I have open the defect device and found out that there was an internal short circuit between 2 of the external cables. I believe that the first potting material had made the external cables soft while getting hard. I had used 2 cable straps inside of the potting compound what pressed the cables together and might result in the short circuit.

However, I already changed the internal wiring without cable straps at the 2. serie. So, this issue is a matter of past...

All the best!

Axel,
Was one of the external wires the solenoid ( green ) and the other ehc ground ( black ) ? Just tiring to figure out what happen. Still can not wrap my brain around it? If it was the Power ( red ) and Power ( black ) That would make more sense, I shut off the key and it was still sizzling. Only after I pulled the fuse the short went away. Also the burnt smell, if it was only the wires bad then was the smell from the potting material getting hot? Sorry for all the questions just want to know what happen. I do not know alot about electronics but I am a electrician at trade. Something changed the bike ran fine the day before? Are you sure the wires shorting was not a result of heat caused from another problem?
Just want to get the bike to a point I can trust it. Dependable / Reliable.
Thanks
Todd

That was fast shipping! Wow!

Interesting though that potting material must have made it really soft. I wouldn't expect the EHC Should be drawing enough to melt the wire sheathing.

Hey James, reading back thru this post seems like you were the first to try Axels ehc replacement and now he has an upgraded unit. Does this mean you need to get the upgraded unit or are you safe in running the first one. Just curious.
Paul......I only tried the first one out to give axel a feel for it and to get some feedback.......I am running the same upgraded version that everybody else is running now

Hm, we´ll find it not out exact. There are only some speculations include my own. Hope to get your bike back on the road soon :)

However does somebody know if the ignition coil of the EFI version have the same resistance like the coil in the cabureted version? I know from Harley bikes that some injected bikes have a lower resistance what drives more curent through the control box. What about the S&S?

Thanks a lot!

All the best!

...By the way, I got the rubber damper and the metal sheets (with better dimensions) today. I think this will help improve the life time :)

The metal sheet (2 mm galvanized steel) will fix the sockets against bending and vibrations. The rubber damper will reduce the heavy and short vbrations from the chassis to the box.

I tried to open a box with the new potting material with a hammer but I was not able to open it. The connection to the pcb is much better as I expected. I just removed a small part of the material at the left edge. It was the test box with the red paint what I made last week. The box from Todd with the first potting material was much easier to damage and open. Todd do you recognize your 2004 EHC :) ?

So, I think we are on the right way and the mechanical issues are almost solved. We just need something like a square "Yoghurt cup" what covers the connectors against water and after that there is just a bit finetuning in the electronic. I don´t think that the fault rate will be somewhere around zero in the future but I start to believe that the new products will have a much better performance and lifetime compare to the original. Let´s see...

All the best!

Hope not to see any more of the insides. :chopper::chopper: Actually under the seat and out of mine would be great. :old2:
Update I bought a new ignition system which includes coil and wires. Changed to a single fire. Tested the VR for bad diodes. Also tested all wiring. Bike should be back on the road again soon. :here:Can't wait we actually had a few days without RAIN here in PA.

Did you figure out what the problem was with the ground going to the Ignition module and remove the extra ground you added?

LMAO!! Love this forum!! ...Axel, Ker, & Curtis: Bike is up and running again, Axel's new EHC (58) fixed the issue with the bike full on (with the key sitting on my polishing chair!). (Adding my 2 cents since I was busy and didn't get to chime in) WORTH EVERY BIT OF $550.00, THANK YOU AXEL for the production, dissemination, follow-up & updates! OK, back to working on my freakin' Ark! Only 26 more days of rain here in S.C. PA...
Great job.. Glad to see ya back in action.. now clean that puppy up before Ker gets back.. :old2::cheers:
