Running rich

I think it was all me. I was pulling the inrichment handle up when I start the bike in the morning thinking it was a choke. I seen a video showing that it's not a choke. So I put the jet back in it an got some ngk plugs on the was. The bike ran good with very little decel pop. What y'all think?
Check your enricher make sure it is seated at the bottom. Buddy of mine had his slightly turned on his Ironhorse which cause popping and hesitating. You really shouldn't have to use the enricher. For me even in very cold weather I don't use it and if your bike is really cold the primary fluid will be so thick you'll be hard pressed to get it fired up anyway.

Yeah cause parts is parts. Anything mechanical is prone to failure. I think a guarantee would raise more red flags in MY mind? But it may just be me? Give Curtis a shout. He the man with the nfo.

Everyone over jets, 29.5/74 and you'll be golden. 125,000 miles proven
Thank you and well said ! I see so many posts on bigger jets and I'm thinking that engine should be flooding out with those size jets lol.
I think a lot of guys equate bigger jet more horsepower. No and no again it's a properly tuned engine that gets the most horsepower. If that means a 29.5 and a 74 jet so be it. bigger is not better here it doesn't apply jmo.

It's a new starter on there website. And it's on sale for 275.00
I don't know if it's new or rebuilt. I was just ordering something last night and saw it. I'd think it's a rebuilt.

Regarding no guarantee on oil relief I believe that's because they were not rebuilt by him he shut down the service for awhile.

My assumption is he is just helping people out and those are the rebuilt starters from the McClouds. Nothing wrong with those starters. Most I've seen don't have an oil relief in the nose which is also fine won't kill anyone I promise.

:old2:Yep, there's a lot of factors that can go wrong
Does the primary have a vent
Was too much oil put in the primary
Is the splash washer installed
Is the proper o-ring installed on the outside diameter of the starter clutch ass'y
Is the proper seal used on the starter shaft in the starter clutch ass'y
Are the clutch ass'y bearings worn
Then there is the oil relief cut, necessary or not? That depends on some of the above, my original starter did NOT have it and didn't leak for 3 years, the clutch hub nut did come loose and the starter gear got chewed up, and broke the starter mount, that's when my nightmare with rebuilt starters began.
All is good now:old2::whoop:

I would wonder why then when I had the dealer install my BR pipes, that the pipes came with 31/76 jets to be installed? And it ran great. After I installed the 585 and S&S's dual runner, I could not adjust the carb to stop the popping on both accel and decel, I bumped up to 32/78 and it eliminated all the popping except for the occasional sneezing thru the carb at 50-55mph. According to their (S&S) website on carb setup, to eliminate the sneezing they suggested to bump the inter up, which I did and now I'm running 33/78 without any issues.
With the above stated, all carbs are different due to the tolerance of parts, and if the jets are held to a tolerance of +/-.0005 on the size hole you can have +/-.001 between jets of the same size, hence the air fuel mixture screw to be able to fine tune the carb to the motor.
Bottom line, no 2 are alike:2cents:

:agree: Really depends on what mods have been done. I have 34 inter and 82 main, 630 cam, S&S dual runner, minor head work, and V&H big radius. I do find that adjustments are needed depending on season, and where I am riding, environmental and elevation factors can greatly affect the tune of your carb. If you're intimately familiar with your machine and know how to adjust your carb, I would be inclined to say run whatever damn jets work for you..:2cents:

I'm trying to understand what your saying, is this what's happening, you put new plugs in and you start it and let it idle and then pull your plugs and they are black. Is this correct?

What do the plugs look like after running it for 100-200 miles? Is there any popping on decel? Is there hesitation or stumbling while riding. There are too many unknowns and if the plugs are on the black side but not fowled out, meaning the bike won't start, then you need to adjust your carb according to the S&S PDF that I posted. Some black is better than none.
