EHC replacement

We had tested the EFI version today. Almost everything is fine and works as expected. There is only one issue: The low fuel led in the tachometer was permanent glow and the tank was almost full. In the original EHC schematic is just a bridge between A22 and B40 indicated. I have not found a low fuel sensor in the schematic, even when I use my eye glasses :-/

Any ideas?

By the way, I have checked the current from the constant power output of EHC to the EFI. It´s about 20 mA in standby and about 480 mA in use. So, there is just a small fuse necessary in he EHC. I´ll simulate a constant current circuit within the next days. This might be better in my opinion compare to an ordinary fuse and might be an option for the next version.

All the best!

See below. The sensor is a thermistor (resistance varies with temp) in the tank.

The "glowing light" has always been an issue when the EHC is eliminated. As you can see the circuit passes through the EHC. Apparently the resistance the EHC provides is enough to make create a differential and cause it to glow. I have this issue, and would be happy to find a solution. I have heard people running that circuit through a relay and the additional impedance resolved the issue.

I didn't like that solution. I think a simple resistor could do it, but don't know what value it would be,

Well that sucks.

They must be missing the resistor to read the voltage appropriately. Need to know what thermistor is sitting in the tank

Thanks for the info. I like the idea with a thermistor :)

I´ll measure it when I´m next time in Hamburg and visit "my BD dealer". It couldn´t be a challenge to find it out. It might be a simple resistor what cost about 1 cent or in the worst case a small trigger circuit, what cost somewhere around 50 cent. I also use something similar in my "Display PCB" as high temperature indicator ( http://www.elektronikbox.de/display_pcb_uk.html ). It´s no rocket science and simple to implement in a future EHC version.

The 2 transistors on the left side are the trigger circuit (left side until "TEMPANZ"). The trimpot allow to adjust the trigger point in combination with different sensor values. This could be a fixed value if the bike type will not change.

I´ll keep you inform how to solve it.

All the best!

I am certain it's nowhere near that complicated. It works fine other than the light will glow (not fully shut off). This circuit works, but its still more complicated than need be IMO.

Hi Jwooky,

Thanks for the info. I´ll try it and would prefer everything, what is as simple as possible. It´s a good opportunity to use my old resistance decade, what I got some years ago from ebay...

All the best!

AWESOME time to have my buddy get the craps of his 05' Ridgeback starter issues and want to sell it to me cheap as all get up!! So I start researching and come across this thread, u guys are flippin' awesome for helping each other out getting Axel's project off the ground! And Axel, you sound like the smartest MC rider I've ever heard of! (I have a buddy who talks like this, but he could give you an hour long dissertation on how he helped God create grass and rocks so we know he's full of it!) Axel, I just sent you an email on your product, hoping there are some still around & they'll fit an 05' Ridgeback since it's killing me seeing it sit in the garage and I can't ride it. Happy new member, hello to all! Rotweiller & BWG56, maybe we'll meet up at a neighboring watering hole sometime, I'll buy ya's one since I saved a ton on this beauty!

Sounds good to me, a soda would be great, I'm 4 yrs sober:old2:

Hit this thread outta respect for the forum, and post some pics:old2:

The intro link u sent is empty, says cannot be found. Tried the email that came, same thing. Is this the same thing as the "About You" box on the 'Personal Details' page?

Thanks I agree,

Keep looking in the mail box but not sure how long it takes to get here from Germany. Will keep you guys posted on how it works.

While I'm logged on I better verify something. Like I said I bought the 05' Ridgeback not running & I have to get it fixed. I think I'm in the right thread & barking up the right tree but wanna make sure. After proper starting protocol the start button is pushed & all I get is a loud, mechanical click from top of motor. No turning over or even trying to turn over. Battery (310 CCA) is new & fully charged, lights, gauges, everything else works. Is this likely the EHC or do I have bigger fish to fry?

The load click you hear is the compression releases engaging. There are several things that could be going on here. Like the others said.....start with the battery.....just work your way through things......mine did the same thing yours is doing....and it ended up being the circuit for the starter relay on my ehc. When you push in the start button, check for voltage on the green wire that is connected to the starter relay. Good place to start.

Yes, I agree with James. It´s the right way!

About the "Low Fuel" indicator: I just have seen that my "new" EHC tester have this function implemented :) This will make things easier to figure out. I will make some new pcb boards next week on thursday or friday and think to solve the challenge with the permanent glow of the Low Fuel indicator soon.

However, I have seen that the Thermistor in the EFI version is implemented in the fuel pump assembly. I thought it´s somewhere in the gas tank. I don´t understand how a thermistor in the fuel pump assembly can detect if the tank is full or almost empty? When the sensor is hanging in the fuel pump and the led indicates "Low Fuel", then it´s already too late and the tank is empty in my opinion. What is my mistake? Thanks a lot!

All the best!

Did you hit the run button then start button?
Well, technically I didn't... the guy who owned it for the last 4 years did and he went through the same start-up process he always did. He told me about having to hit the Run button first and mentioned something about compression. ...Thanks for the advice, I'm going to start tinkering with the electric leading up to the EHC & starter. It also has an 'Advance Auto Battery so I'm going to pull my good one from the Jackpot & c if that turns it over.
